Ouro Preto to.. Rio de Janeiro..

Ouro Preto is a small town where the brasilian religious fanatism best gets expressed.
a small town built amongst hills and mines from where gold used to be extracted, and now concentrates a enviable beautiful collection of baroque art, churches and fountains and oratories.
Ouro Preto, kinda obviously, holds one of the most interesting and colourful celebration of the Holy week in the country..it's fun to see also that the procession becomes a theatrical experience where the locals dress up and personify all the protagonists of the Passion of the Christ'; presented one by one (from Nicodemo the Pharisee to Pilato and his slaves, from all the Apostoles to Lazzaro!), before the ceremony in front of a huge crowd in the main square opposite the San Francisco de Assis, one of the many important churches..the procession itself doesn't start before 1-2 am though...
the town was preparing for the big night that brings to the well known Resurrection, it's said that the locals sprinkle the main road for the procession with colourful flowers and sawdust, but it''s said cause I was on the bus to Rio de Janeiro when this was happening!!
shame on me, maybe, but Rio was calling..

Ouro Preto é un piccolo paese dove il fanaticismo religioso brasiliano si esprime al meglio..
un piccolo paese costruito tra le colline e mine dalle quali si soleva estraere oro e che ora concentra una invidiabile bellissima colleszione di arte barocca, chiese, fontane e oratori.
Ouro Preto, diciamo ovviamente, accoglie una delle piú interessanti e colorate celbrazioni della settimana Santa del paese..é divertente vedere come la processione diventa una esperienza teatrale dove i locali si vestono e personificano tutti i protagonisti della Passione del Cristo; presentati uno per volta (dal Fariseo Nicodemo a Pilato e i suoi schiavi, da tutti gli Apostoli a Lazzaro!), prima della cerimonia tenuta nel largo di fronte la San Francesco Di Assisi, una delle tante importanti chiese e di fronte a una grande folla..la processione non comincia peró prima delle 1-2 della mattina..
il paese si stava preparando per la grande notte che porta alla ben conosciuta Resurrezione, si dice che i locali cospargono le strade principali della processione con fiori e segatura colorate, ma si dice perché io ero nel bus per Rio de Janeiro mentre ció accadeva!!
un peccato, forse, ma Rio chiamava..
