in the middle of nowhere, discovered underneath small hills, hundreds of statues carved out from volcanic rocks and dating 5000 years back, according to the investigators, create a magical "stop and think" of past civilizations.
investigators that cannot give much more explanations about their origin and the reasons!
the area is still underdeveloped even if the sites are amongst the most important in Latin America, and the excursions must be arranged with local travel agencies in a very competitive bargaining way.
the area that till 5-10 years ago used to be the most dangerous part of a country known in the world for the narcotraffic and guerrilla, where bridges, only connection amongst small villages and high mountains, passing over powerful rivers have been targeted by bombs.
the two tours available take you to visit all the archealogical sites and are with jeeps and with horses.
definitely the horse ride is an unusual experience and what a experience (also for my bottom!!) we very enjoyed it (apart from my bottom!) and we really made ourselves filthy and muddy while we galloped through woods and sugar cane plantations loving any second of it (though my bottom wouldn`t confirm that!!).
the weather during the rainy season here cannot help, in a small village where asphalt can be rare and mud and horses excrements must be carefully avoided.
deciding to spend some more time in this little place also because the posada (guesthouse) where we are staying is cheap and quiet, though only when the tens of cockerels are sleeping and the cucarachas (cockroaches) hiding!!

sperduti, scoperti sotto piccole collinette, centinaia di statue scolpite da rocce vulcaniche e risalenti a 5000 anni fa, secondo gli investigatori, creano un magico "stop e pensa" di civilizzazioni passate.
seppur gli investigatori non riescono a spiegare piu´di tanto riguardo le origini e ragioni!
l´area che e´ancora abbastanza sottosviluppata seppur i siti sono tra i piu´importanti in America Latina, e le escursioni sono solo possibili tramite le agenzie con una aspra e seria concorrenza e dovuto mercantaggio.
l´area che fino a 5-10 anni fa era tra le piu´ pericolose del paese conosciuto al mondo per il sui traffici illeciti di droga e guerrilla, dove ponti, unici collegamenti tra piccoli paesi e alte montagne, sorvolanti potenti fiumi erano bersaglio di bombe.
i due tour disponibili comprendono tutti i siti archeologici e sono con jeep e a cavallo.
certamente la cavalvata e´un´esperienza unica e che esperienza (anche per il mio fondoschiena!) ci siam davvero divertiti (a parte il mio fondoschiena!) e ci siamo davvero sporcati e infangati mentre galoppavamo tra boschi e piantagioni di canne da zucchero amando ogni secondo (il mio fondoschiena non credo confirmerebbe!).
il tempo qui durante la stagione delle pioggie non aiuta, in un piccolo villaggio dove l´asfalto scarseggia e fango e escrementi di cavallo devono essere attentamente evitati.
stiamo quindi decidendo di spendere un po´piu´di tempo qui anche perche´abbiam trovato una tranquilla e economica posada (pensione), seppur solo quando le decine di galli dormono e le cucarachas (scarafaggi) si nascondono..
