two hours north of Quito on the Panamericana (the highway that basically and unofficially connects the end of the world: Ushuaia to Canada!) on the way to Colombia in a small village surrounded by lagoons and volcanoes and beautiful landscapes we encountered Otavalo.
this part of the country proudly keeps still alive the indigenous tradition and possibly lifestyle, creating an important cultural shock if coming from the big city.
Otavalo is very well known touristic destination for its popular crafts market held everyday in the Plaza de los Ponchos and it really has some of the best handicraft amongst all the South American countries I visited: extremely, seriously touristic, thought good photos opportunities..
due ore nord di Quito sulla Panamericana (l'autostrada che fondamentalmente e ufficiosamente collega la fine del mondo: Ushuaia al Canada!) sulla via per la Colombia in un piccolo paese circondato da lagune e vulcani e paesaggi bellissimi abbiam incontrato Otavalo.
questa parte del paese mantiene orgogliosamente viva la tradizione indigena e possibilmente anche lo stile di vita, creando un importante shock culturale venendo dalla grande citta'.
Otavalo e' una destinazione turistica molto conosciuta per il suo popolare mercato artigianale che si tiene tutti i giorni nella Plaza de los Ponchos e certamente possiede uno dei migliori artigianati tra i paesi Sudamericani che ho visitato: estremamente, seriamente turistico, sebbene buona occasione per interessanti foto..
