serendipity..cannot be explained...that's it.

Cafayate enjoys of amazing landscapes that crazily change in just few kilometres..so you can encounter mountains of a bright red soil facing huge rock formations of various colorful layers of sediments, weird shapes and incredible nature.
here is where in any kiosk you can already buy coca leaves that are Bolivia famous habit..coca leaves to be chewed with a white powder called bica (bicarbonate)!!chewed I said..or also drink them as infusion tea...
just while I was writing this post (where I had little to write) in a restaurant or better a rancho (hut) I was approached by a young boy and a little girl, kids of the owner of the place and they started to talk to me about the other 8 brothers and sisters (normal thing seems to be here, cause the state helps families with more than 7 kids!!)..in the meanwhile a local musician prepared to perform some popular music and shared some of my wine after my invitation; cannot be explained the feeling..that's it.
this country is giving me so much, and I hope and believe all the continent will.
the mad thing here is that you can make friends or enjoyable meetings so easy and people are son friendly, open, smiley and curious..cannot be explained..that's it

finalmente Cafayate..

Cafayate is a small town four hours south of Salta and kinda ten south of the bolivian border.. nearly 12 thousand inhabitants, a small centre where after two days you come to see the same local people again and again and greet.
This areas is basically where the Inkas also settled reaching up to Perù, through Bolivia.
No many ruins left though but llamas only, the hairy typical Andean camel alike they used to breed.
Llamas that can dangerously appear soon after a bend in front of the bus or that can be eaten on traditional argentinian parrilla.
That’s what we did (avoided one with bus on the way here) and eaten some of the meat in another international night disturbed by some rain only..
Very touristic here as well where the folklore festival has just ended while the harvest just starting ..wine that can even be found as ice cream and that is basically produced unusually in the town centre where few of the wineries are located.
That’s where I spent most of my time in the past two cloudy and rainy days, following the process from a different and closer perspective..

it's all about the people..it helps to share experience and time with other backpakers sometimes..much better if these are your friends from Europe..
while stuck because of rain, got the chance to, casually (not really), meet a english friend;
weather was very english too and depressive so we could only lazy around.. pretty unusual for me..
we met a blind guy travelling since 4 months in South America with his bestfriend and that's mad, powerful, amazing..also we had a nice international dinner with a canadien, french and australian girls..
by the way I made it safe and excited to Cafayate..another international get together with french, americans, and argentinians on the bus that after 20 minutes got a flat tire...
another amazing landscape and this is really thrilling me..
now I am at Matia's, that is a guy opening his home's doors to people for cheap accomodations, I had done the same at Cachi few nights ago..it's not hostelling but you mix with the locals and it's fun..

hot and cold..

plan changed as I expected yesterday, once got to the bus station no seats for Cafayate till today, so decided to go and spend the night in a very small town amongst mountains and open valleys just 5 hours driving away (150 km!!)..very well pushed by local tourism authorities also because the old village can only be reached passing through amazing and changing scenery.
this is the part of the country where you can see thousands of "cardones" (tall cactuses) growing up to 5-6 metres and anywhere in the landscape; sunny to go, adventurous (maybe too much!) the way back.
pretty stunning drive avoiding rocks fallen from the red peaks (for few kilometres I was even helping the driver to spot falling ones when started raining while keeping my hands above my head just in case..), wild monkeys, herds of cows and horses and even tarantulas hampering the unpaved road disrupted sometimes by water channels..
that's the area where the gauchos used to settle..this areas also experience the rain season that run between january and february..that's why after safely manage the unpaved and twisty valley road we got seriously stuck (4 hours) in a small town just outside Salta capital where there was an important and heavy flood.
Unfortunately I couldn't make another route that I would have preferred to Cafayate, meant to be all unpaved, but extremely scenic and through canyons, from Cachi.
in Cachi, that's the name of the small old village, there was the local carnival festival where many of the 2000 inhabitants attended the popular performance of the local kids held in something like a indoor sport arena, but just something like...
the plan now was to go south to Cafayate and camp for a week while "meeting" new wines and following the starting harvest in a carnival atmosphere in a small winery..
ah I bought a simple, easy tent for 60 pesos (12 euros roughly) from a israeli guy and borrowed the sleeping bag from a cool australian met in the hostel here is Salta and that I will meet again somewhere in Bolivia in the next few weeks...
so I am stuck now in Salta again, I don't wanna risk with this weather..
