the beaten unbeaten track

a common thing of this small beach villages is that you can rent a cabaña or better small appartment with 6-8 beds..they come to be cheaper than hostels even if in 2-3 people!!That's what I did the second night in Punta del Diablo with 4 french guys met casually!
very cosy and old style apartment 20 metres from the sea!!Nice, I cooked some spaghetti with mussels , drunk some uruguayan wine and shared experiences..That's what I did also in Cabo Polonio..Cabo Polonio needs a chapter for itself!!no electricity, no cars but 4 per 4 safari, no roads, no aqueduct, no much but so charismatic and peaceful!!
let's start from the 4 per 4 safari you need to get to get there, 9 km of sand away from the main road and from a french couple that joined me.
there I am supposed to meet my brasilian friend traveling in bicycle and his argentinian girlfriend..entering the village there was a disgusting and indescribable smell coming just from the rest of a whale died on the beach and in putrefaction state..
got there I bargained a cabaña for 1500 U$ (around 45 euros) for 3 nights for the 5 of us, moved in, got organised and bought some candles..then enjoyed one of the best sunset ever..
lighted the fireplace, hunt a frog from the bathroom, drank some wine and stared one of the most incredible starry sky ever..My 24th started a 5:57 for the sunrise and a walk in the empty village..no really empty cause on the rocky side of the coast there is a huge colony of lobos marinos..
As I promised to myself I would have been surfing for Xmas and I did...I mean I tried and I didn't do that well....I also played football with Marco, the guy I rent the surfboard from, on the beach...it's also all about meeting people and experience!!!
Oddly now I am in the most exclusive beach destination in South America: Punta del Este that is what Milano Marittima or Monaco would be for Europe..

imprevisti e serendipities

today I got up early to go and take some pics of the empty beach where old boats are displayed, I guess, for tourists..soon after I realised that my camera battery chager wasn't working...so considering that I am in a small fishermen town that has not asphalt nor banks I had to move to a town 40 kilometres away at the border with Brasil called Chuy to find a solution...that's where I am writing now from...
I am staying in Punta del Diablo that is a very touristic destination just for being so remote and inaccessible and pretty particular...so please somebody calls my mum and explains that this is all about independent travelling...I am in kinda expensive hostel that enjoys of monopoly and charisma...the owner is a young 25 years old american traveller that fell in love for the place and invested some friend's and relatives money!!!so if you have some savings....there is the idea!!!
in Chuy I easily fixed the problem thanks to the kindness of a couple of duty free shop attendant that I payed back with a bag of fruit!!!
tomorrow or the day after I am planning to visit one even more remote town or better part of the country, where electricity has not been allowed yet and where officially only 86 people live!!!if bullshit I have been told bullshit I am writing...I am trying to post some pictures soon too...for now FELIZ NAVIDAD...!!!

attraversando uruguay

I am in La Paloma!!that in english means The Pigeon!!it's one of the most popular beach destinations of Uruguay and people say in january-february is very crowded..now there is just me, my tent and some locals..it's also very popular for being one of the main surfing spots in the country..
I am in a campsite again, lonely but I guess getting stronger; at the end nobody is telling me what to do, so...
I wouldn't call it masochism cause I do like it somehow to be by myself, but moderately..that's why I spent the previous two nights in a hostel! I actually met my first compatriot backpacking...from Bolzano so I don't know if I can call him italian..
Uruguay is being fine so far, I am finding what I expected in people and I kinda love it and is also fairly cheap and fairly organised, well tourism minded..
I found myself talking about football and travels in a very old restaurant-bar with a old local man enjoying local whisky and coke...I am glad my spanish is good, cause I would be missing a lot..
yesterday on the bus I met Hugo from Montevideo, we spent the three hours of the journey talking.he has been living in Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador and has given me important and essential tips..now he has moved back to Uruguay and enjoying wife and kids and waiting for me to go and see him for a parrilla!!we will see.
today I went for a beach day with idea surfing...I ended sunbathing/sunburned for two hours and when I jumped in the water to swim a bit it was so cold that my breath stuck for few seconds and my legs lost sensitivity..I didn't surf!!

crossing the first border

Tigre is situated at the delta of the Rio del Plata meant to be one or the largest river in the world.
the strenght of the river in the years has created hundreads of small islands, so many that Miguel said that six months wouldn't be enough to know and visit all of them!!!
Miguel is the owner of the camping I have been staying in the last two days on one of the many islands..
short, hyppie, bald with long hair on the back, talkative, wild...nice guy really!!!
He also kindly invited me to join him and wife and friends in two of the most typical things here in Argentina: homemade empanadas and Mate..
I haven't said anything yet about mate yet, have I? What a shame....Mate is a herb infusion that argentinians or better Gauchos or precisely a wide part of southern South America love at any hour of the day. I haven't said anything about Gauchos yet either!!! Gauchos are in few words the cowboys of South America and precisely of the Pampas and southern regions of Brasil!!...so many things to learn while traveling..anyway mate can be drunk hot, cold or with juices and it needs proper straw and mate (gourds) and thermos to refill it all the time... I also learned that there is a small worm called "centimetro" because it moves in a centimetre speed step..I started the purification...experiencing and learning about the life with sleeping bag and tent..I will get used to mosquitoes, uncomfy night sleeps and lack of my vice..
By the way I am in Uruguay... two hours and half of navigation amongst the islands and I reached the uruguayan port of Carmelo.
small town, no much to do also because I got there at midday when everything is closed...just rent a bike to go and find the sign "Bienvenidos a Carmelo" at the entrance of the town for a memory picture for my father and something to eat...then bus to Colonia del Sacramento that is possibly the best place to visit in the country cause of the old town that has portuguese architecture and ruins..Sincerely I'm more interested in beaches and wineries...so I guess I will move soon...

the best of the traveling

last year when I visited Turkey I spent 20 minutes in a bus station in Denizli, to go to Cappadocia.... this has nothing to do with Argentina if it wasn't for the fact that there I met an argentian guy, and that last night we arranged to go out together...he came and pick me up with his car and we drove to his friends house in Villa Pueyrredon quarter (on the outskirts of the city) for the 37th birthday of one of them!!I hadn't been much out during this six weeks in Buenos Aires and it was nice to join and experience the argentinian way..it really was nice because, as I wrote before in my posts, italians are very popular here.they are all referred as "Tano", also the argentinians with italian origin like to call themselves like this..so it was fun to meet all those curious people and share experiences considering I was way the youngest!!I didn't follow them to the disco so I got on a bus and made my way back to the hostel also because I had to work today...and here it's where the experience got wilder..first because I didn't know where I was at 3:20 in the morning, second because I got on the bus with 0,85 centavos (0,20 eurocents) that are not enough to pay the 0,90 centavos (0,21 eurocents) fare and without coins you are not allowed to stay on!!! and third because I fell asleep on the bus and woke up at the terminal that was Costituciòn train station area, that is not the safest place to be around at 4:00 am, actually after Boca is the place not to be at all.....taxi were not stopping, transsexuals and prostitutes were whistling at me and also kindly saying "hola?!", suspicious faces passing by and I had to walk my way back to the hostel that luckily was just 12 blocks away..I made it safely but....hi Mum.. it's ok...
