beer festival and wine tour...Oregon

a young crowd, plenty of junkies or homeless for choice, a festival with 50 tastable beers, a moden and vibrant downtown. Portland is considered the most eco-friendly city in the USA and for sure it feels like, and this was also the biggest beer festival in the country too..that was my weekend in Portland, I crashed in Jim's living room, on his air matress, with his young brother's friend: all helps to control the budget..
traveling is a chain and travelers are the rings, we tend to give an hand to each other..Jim himself is the brother of his older brother Ryan that I met at the beginning of my trip in Argentina, while in Cafayate, just 17 months ago...
I enjoy to enjoy of the summer days, and I am more than positive that I wouldn't have liked being here in a different season as you say failing to prepare is preparing to fail and it's strategical the organization to rush and to slow down during the travel to match timings.
another beautiful day, parks and walks and some more beer tastings, some more inspiration for the book, some wine regions, wine tastings, wine talks, wineing...few hours driving nord east of Portland direction Walla Walla valley, that might have a funny name but for sure is an unbeaten path drive where scenery and nature meet for a great experience: a drive started with cascades and sequoia filling the rock formations picture on one side and the Columbia river on the other, and finished with the unexpected oddity of deserted areas without hills, rock formations, green and only a endless wheat field of a warm yellow..who would have expected that the Oregon police would fine 474 US (350 euros) for speed limit..and that here in Walla Walla (yes the city is called Walla Walla!!), at 6 hours driving south of the border with Canada, at 18:45 the temperature was 106F (41C) degree...

the switch....

when sunny (hardly I would believe) San Francisco can really show its best, when then you have a bycicle to discover it much better..I have got to consider the pain in my butt of the day after and the hilly roads that are so incredible,,,but how cool is that: bike lanes, everything pretty much few miles away, a bit of nice breeze and a summer sun that hardly warms you up!!that's when it's sunny!!!I spent 4 days and 4 nights and all I got was pretty much fog and a English fall weather that didn't inspire discover at all...
San Francisco: pretty much Asian, or pretty much Latin American, with plenty of French and Italian spoken by the temporary guests..Manish was a great encounter and these days helped to get organised a bit for the following weeks.
an unexpected fase came up and started with the abrupt leaving of my red curl to Latvia, solo traveling again, solo life again (for a while!!) and already on the road, night bus to Portland using for the first time the National bus company, lightly ridicoulous, scary and dodgy, but lightly cheaper and faster..Portland will hold a huge brew festival in this weekend, some beer tasting doesn't sound bad at all....

the cities.....

San Francisco's vibe..

we dropped off the car with some 3500sh km only, with the Redwoods National park also amongst our pictures, a beautiful drive amongst some of the tallest trees in the world...crossing roe dears, no cars for a while then the slow, twisty and memorable drive south the 1 from the Mendocino county to the Golden Gate bridge..tiring and at moments dangerous, for some seconds feeling lost but still with the hope to view the famous bridge that makes San Francisco's great postcard pictures.. some BBQ oysters on the way, that satisfy hardly my hunger, but also that make me laugh a bit..some stops over for pictures and neccessities and here we see the bay from the Northern side of the bridge.. a light sun, a chilly breeze, three blocks up and four down, the cable cars and the bridge is gone, hiding behind the beautiful buildings of the centre..a foggy day, cold not chilly, cold, winterlike and spoiled our park day, the walks amongst the scenic drive and the fascinating ladders so American movies on the side of every house..couchsurfing with Manish, a guy from Bangalore, enjoyable and kind, and the fog and cold is still here and I am in, relaxing, thinking, saving, laundying, ironing, dreaming and planning..

driving California

it's fun to encounter the many faces of the US, the differences between close by states, and the great selection of world faces going on proudly wearing the flag star and stripes..California afterwards really has it all and it's showing it!! temperatures are being much chiller than the Death Valley's!!..and that we actually expected..on our way 101 north thousand of vines respecting proudly their own subregion characteristics and respecting a elegant yet unbalanced style..it's not being easy to squeeze driving, tasting, check ins, check outs, meal times and meetings; the map is a great help for somebody that doesn't really appreciate GPSs..on the way motels/hotels cheap or just reasonable that are providing us a quiet, clean and peaceful roof and new travel shots..the so popular coastal route 1, that so much is acclaimed needed more time than we actually dedicated and San Francisco there waiting at the end of the peninsula welcomed us with a smiley sun and a fresh warmth, but with a jammy ad chaotic centre..so not much more, if I can afford to write/say, than wine, wine and California..
