the East and the friends

a hot sun, the marinas, skyscrapers and bridges of Miami.a few steps away from the large, white, wavy , not Carribean at all, beach our hostel amongst clubs and restaurant and favourite playground for cool, posh, rich and fancy folks from all over the world..monkeys, snakes, parrots for a picture, insanely huge 10 units (alcohol) cocktails, sexy (or maybe not) looking girls and boys, stylish lounges and mad clubs, a granmum skateboarding (honestly chapeaux..), a orange Lamborghini behind a beautiful Bugatti, the art deco architecture all on Ocean drive, all living and sharing the same waterfront..a glimpse of Miami Beach, overwhelmed by the integrated and proud community Latina, a smiley Larry (a wine guy met in Cayman) his wife and some wines... a full day in the train, the charisma and the noises of this way of transportation not available in Latin America as much, six States crossed and then Washington DC.. a big chunk of the travel and some more friends to meet, we'll spend a couple of days with Sally and Rob ( guests in Osetra Bay) and their talks and our stories in their place in peaceful Potomac.. an imposing and gorgeous architecture with the vibe of a serious and politicalised city, the stroll around the White House, the pictures at the white US Capitol, the the folk feast, the museums area, the long walks, the Potomac Canal, some history and we start the crossing to the other side of the country: Chicago first stop..

I haven' t forgotten...

again on the road, yes after a month from my last post!!, officially on the road, a bit easier, or maybe harshier than before; hopping on and off the Caribbean Islands that are unbeaten track and paradises for many.it's the forth and last part of this adventure, madness, challenge, experience or travel as you might want to call it.routes and places have changed frequently according to the mood, plan and concept of the travel.this forth part is unusual and different, more scheduled and strict; pretty much is all set beforehead and pretty much we are stuck on the schedule, flights and dates, with the South African World cup, as points of reference.
today is the first day of the forth week since we left the tax heaven Island so dear to us and to the travel.Cuba was with no doubt a place where our trip would have taken us, and honestly forget all the bullshits that go around Fidel's Island.smiley, scruffy and humble Cubans and Havana welcomed us to their world, so different from ours..a place to stop and think with sadness or envy..a world set up in two separate subworlds, with different currencies, transportations, standards and charmes.the real Cuba, that maybe doesn't exist, is hard to encounter on a vacation; the daily life behind the fences of old, broken houses, the queue to get a glass of sugar cane juice for a peso of the "moneda nacional".a world that lives in his world, where I wouldn't honestly see those Che Guevara boys nor those fanatics of Marx. we rapidly crossed till reaching a dismessed Santiago de Cuba, on the way checking out the cobblestone streets of Trinidad and the fussfree boulevards of untouristic Holguin.in a small airplane then we flew above Haiti, and landed in a chaotic Dominican Repubblic, where we happily but quickly met Dona Nancy, great woman and crazy couchsurfer... mum and dad soon to arrive in San Juan and after 20 months it was time for me and us..a week in Puerto Rico, one on the Carnival Victory around the Eastern Caribbean Islands and we put a bit aside our way of travel.
From Miami Beach, finally with a stable wifi connection and a new netbook and again in a hostel after long time, we set our next stops and travel begins..

it's precisely 7 months we landed on Cayman, with doubts and crisis behind and the Central America and South America and the Spanish and the buena ondas, the real people and the real travel too..Cayman switched our lives and made us posh for a bit, but the travel is not finished nor forgotten..we are getting ready because we won't be reaching the 8th month on the island..the flights are already booked and the rest of the trip is roughly drawn on a piece of paper...the route is pretty much fixed and no many changes are gonna be allowed unluckily from the first two parts of the trip...we have a goal and we succeeded pretty much in what the hard 3rd part of it was supposed to be like...we needed a place to save money, we found a great place to take in consideration for life...but my life now is this trip and money and fame can wait: from the right the train of this project comes motivated and proud to reach finally the last stations and takes precedence...Cayman can wait, the low season, the summer is clocking in and the humidity and warmth make it hard to leave the nice air conditioned houses...
the first step will want us to jump on our next door Cuba and the flight provided by Cayman Airways that as well brought us in from Honduras will introduce us to the Fidel Castro's and Che's Island..19 days to go and we are on the road again..

some updates from Cayman

Christmas is long gone, time is flying here in Cayman, in West Bay that is one of the district of the Island and where my daily life tends to happen, many things are changining but none that would blow anybody's mind just yet...after 4 months on the island I managed to become legal with my scooter's papers..it turned to be much more complicated than I thought, but on an island that lives from these fees and licences and where there are no taxes and this high standard of life I guess it's to be accepted...I don't like to add personal daily life stuff on this blog, now that I am working or maybe trying to work on the book of the first 12 months of the trip that brought me from Argentina till Mexico, and then here in Cayman..it's also important to start to find room in the daily life for new friendships, vices, and not only work..life in Cayman brings alot of satisfaction after a bit of stress and the beach helps when that occurs...in the meanwhile the planning for the next moves after Cayman need to be organised, who knows when the after Cayman will be, but there will be...the best part of the journey is still to come, the 3rd part of the travel is honestly turning gratifying but the 4th will release all the pride and confidence that I/we deserve...

the Christmas with the beach and hot, humid sun is possibly something that many people would love to experience..Cayman Islands is becoming our home now and the winter that we were used to live around these months is just a simple new on internet or a fragile thought when contacting home..
there is nothing around here that makes us think of snow and thick jumpers and woollen scarfs: shorts and t-shirts only allowed.
it's strange feeling yet even if last year I was enjoying the beaches of Uruguay around this time...
