paragliding experience

looking at the high hill and the big grey cloud covering it: "desde alli nos vamos a tirar!" ( we are going to jump from there! ).
woke up a bit later than usual in a Colombian bank holiday, breakfast at 11:45 and in a blink of eye we were in the bus station catching the first bus to Pedrera.
on the way there we got off in a cross and got on a jeep, grasping standing on the back cause already all taken the seats inside, finally arrived to the leisure centre that organises the flights: the paragliding experience.
so very quickly signed the obvious papers declaring our responsibilities for anything eventually happening and boarded another jeep, through jungle, to reach the clouded peak.
less than 2 minutes and we were already flying: little run-up and the pilot did the rest... only few minutes and a bit of dizziness for the altitude, the peace, the nature passing by (or better down!!), the beautiful view of the valley and we were already landing.
honestly not as scary and "adrenalin" exciting as I had imagined, but defenetely nice feeling.. to feel like a bird for few minutes..

the plan or at least the ideas...

sometimes while traveling as well as while simply living you need some break to think, to relax, to organise and then to restart.
the idea is to restart getting a nice job and settle a bit for a while, after (more or less) 50-60 different hostel beds in the last seven months, some (just) new places visited, cultures lived and unforgettable experiences, now, maybe it's time, isn't it?also because otherwise how can we accomplish the target?
so we are stopping a bit in Cali: third largest city in Colombia, known also for being one of the most dangerous too, but maybe perfect place where to get comfort and facilities and services, in a warm, very humid environment.
considered as capital of salsa in Colombia, and why not in the world and also one of the cheapest places to practice paragliding in a city itself, that honestly doesn't offer much, by the way both of the attractions are being taken in consideration..
so while mending my backpacks (suffering serious injuries), studying a bit, cooking freely we wait to see what future will bring..

very poor unpaved roads, in a bad shape due to the heavy rain as every year around this time, squeezed in overcrowded jeeps, for 12 people but carrying up to 20 with some hanging on the roof even, avoiding wild or lost horses and cows on the way, crossing old bridges, some with borders subsided brought us to a four houses street that holds an important archeaologic site.
the area, in fact, has been home of civilizations that excavated, adorned and painted tombs pretty much 5000 years ago as much as the statues we visited in San Augustin previously this week.
before reaching here, though, we needed an unexpected stop in a small village, half way, to recover a bit from physical troubles. funny, small town in a valley on a sunday noon when everybody was out drinking, shopping and eating and the horses were literally "parked" outside the bars!! as well as the 4 houses street, officially known as Tierradentro but not really existing on the maps, in fact, people still rely on horses as main transportation method.
here where small bags filled with water are hanged on doors to be a original and the traditional way used against flies and mosquitoes! or where you might have few chickens as next seat on the bus and the cat in the hostel chasing a little mouse in the kitchen while you cooking!! still is fun!! but just about chasing if it's a young bull or better a calf chasing you the fun becomes thrill!!
some of the tombs, in fact, are located on the highest peaks of the landscape around Tierradentro and a 4-5 hours trek, climb is required.
beautiful sunny day, nice track and amazing views, mystic tombs till the young calf stood on our way seeming lost or scared!! for sure we were not lost!!, but we tricked him and managed to carry on without jumping on trees as other tourists told us they did!!
Tierradentro was the place where you had to order "a la carte" 2 hours before for your meal and the convenience stores sold pretty much nothing cause the market is only just one day per week and the truck delivering beers and soft drinks was not around since a month, though beautiful and relaxing archealogical escapade and today after the most uncomfortable bus ride ever we returned to the normality...

kinda on the unbeaten track..

in the middle of nowhere, discovered underneath small hills, hundreds of statues carved out from volcanic rocks and dating 5000 years back, according to the investigators, create a magical "stop and think" of past civilizations.
investigators that cannot give much more explanations about their origin and the reasons!
the area is still underdeveloped even if the sites are amongst the most important in Latin America, and the excursions must be arranged with local travel agencies in a very competitive bargaining way.
the area that till 5-10 years ago used to be the most dangerous part of a country known in the world for the narcotraffic and guerrilla, where bridges, only connection amongst small villages and high mountains, passing over powerful rivers have been targeted by bombs.
the two tours available take you to visit all the archealogical sites and are with jeeps and with horses.
definitely the horse ride is an unusual experience and what a experience (also for my bottom!!) we very enjoyed it (apart from my bottom!) and we really made ourselves filthy and muddy while we galloped through woods and sugar cane plantations loving any second of it (though my bottom wouldn`t confirm that!!).
the weather during the rainy season here cannot help, in a small village where asphalt can be rare and mud and horses excrements must be carefully avoided.
deciding to spend some more time in this little place also because the posada (guesthouse) where we are staying is cheap and quiet, though only when the tens of cockerels are sleeping and the cucarachas (cockroaches) hiding!!

discovering & chilling out..pictures/foto

amongst the things you can do in this part of the country, there is a natural spa day surrounded by amazing landscapes and a visit to traditional indigenous villages nearby mixing and mingling with locals still relying on their tradition, styles and language!
pretty much that's what we did in the past two days!
just an hour north more or less of twisty roads and you are in a small village called Silvia where every tuesday a big vegetables and fruits market is held, main attraction though is the amazing way locals still dress and speak and the colorful, very Colombian, funky, local buses that transport anything imaginable connecting the small mountainous villages!
pretty much same distance and road but east and you are just surprised by hills, waterfalls, rivers, volcanoes, small torrents, and horses and cows balancing themselves on very steep hill sides, and few natural mineral water pools (deserted) set the perfect place for romance and relax (the particulars will not be specified!!).
few more hours away up-country through unpaved road stand some of the most important archaeological ruins, possibly in South America, and that's where we are going to venture from today..
